Steelhead Trout. It’s a tasty, healthy and satisfying salmon alternative. Read below for a simple recipe with some flavors you’ll love – garlic, ginger and orange. What a great combination! This recipe is perfect for steelhead trout and also will work with your favorite salmon fillet.


  • 2 pound steelhead trout fillet
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 oranges – 1 for zest and juice and 1 for slicing
  • 1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon fresh grated orange zest (1 orange worth)
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • salt and pepper


  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Use a large baking sheet and line with foil.
  • Be sure to rinse and pat dry your trout. Place on foil.
  • Add plenty of salt and pepper to the entire fillet.
  • In a small bowl, combine honey, grated ginger, grated garlic, orange zest and orange juice.
  • Pour the mixture over the trout.
  • Add slices of orange around the fillet.
  • Bake until trout flakes easily with a fork, about 25 – 35 minutes.
  • If desired, broil for an additional 2-3 minutes for more carmelization.
